I have an mp3 with wma files on, I have transferred them to a mac but cannot get them into itunes. Help please?

I have gone to a mac, I have copied the wma folders/files onto the desktop. I have put them in the itunes/automatically add to itunes folder but they are still not added. Can someone please give me idiot proof instructions as to what I need to do please.
