2002 Ford Explorer temperature controller?

my sons explorer, the temp. controller will slide back and forth but is stuck in the cold mode. I have gotten answers on this site on how to fix the actuator, but I want to know if there is something that I can do temporally to get him some heat for the defrost. we are having a lot of ice right now. thank you
